#travelseason

A little over 10 weeks ago I wrote about the start of Travel Season – it has finally come to a close.  Well, for me it is.  A few of my GW pals are still on the road in such glamorous places like Anchorage, New York City and Los Angeles.  Not that my travels don’t bring me to favorite tourist destinations - I do go to Savannah, Charleston, Asheville, Memphis - but a real time zone and scenery change is always welcome, right?

Vista as seen from campus of The Asheville School, breathtaking!

For the most part Travel Season 2011 was not that much different than other years. This doesn’t mean that I can just go through the motions because enviably an occurrence will take place to keep me on my toes.  These random acts of weirdness range from the bizarre to the mundane yet they never fail to create a wrinkle in my otherwise carefully planned schedule.

Admissions folks who enjoy Twitter as I do often share their 140 characters or less stories  with #travelseason in our tweets – here are a few examples from me & people I know (and some I’ve never met):

  • From @GWcarol (that’s me)! “Alarms are set for a reason. I’m just sayin #travelseason”
  • From @daisytigers “two more weeks of #travelseason. Once it’s over, I’m going to 1) wash my car 2) get a massage. Prob not in that order”
  • From  @scotts_here: “nothing like a good dieing of your car battery to start your day… #travelseason”
  • From @kscupp: “with the end of #travelseason approaching I think it is time to begin a #caffeinedetox.”
  • From @GWcarol: “and I managed to take a rental car not assigned to me. I am at that point in #travelseason when I am brainless & homesick”
  • From @mellissajoan: “high school secretary to me when I asked for a rest room ‘let me apologize in advance for our disgusting bathrooms’ #travelseason”
  • From @drewsephg (he’s a GW buddy): “After a marathon day including 5 school visits, 10 interviews, and an info session, #travelseason comes to a close”
  • From @GWcarol “excitement in the ATL suburbs – lockdown in high school visit trapped me for neverending #gwu bragfest #travelseason”

Aside from also forgetting my makeup bag in a hotel, getting a rental car that was broken (not the one referred to above), eating homemade chocolates from Davidson Day School, arriving at a school that had moved locations but neglected to tell college reps (me included) this important news – it was a successful #travelseason because of all the wonderful #futurecolonials I met along the way!
Even though my Road Warrior days have slowed down, I’m now gearing up for the start of Reading Season.  GW’s Early Decision I deadline is this Thursday, November 10th.  And with that a hashtag will be reborn #readingseason!  Follow me @GWCarol and @GWadmissions on Twitter; I know you don’t want to miss a second of my adventures to come!
